Windows 8 CP Support

Postby jagowar » Thu Mar 15, 2012 5:31 pm

Has anybody gotten remote potato to work under the consumer preview for Windows 8?

Everything installs fine and it runs but I can't get it the website to load... I know my router is set fine because it was running under windows 7 media center fine and I am using the same internal ip address. Even when trying to access the internal ip address directly it will not load. Also turned off firewall just to see if that was blocking it.

Same problem here. Allthough the services (seem to) start, port 9080 is not reachable. The firewall is opened correctly (port 9080, 9081-9083 are opened explicitly by setup), but there is no listener (as can be seen by netstat -a). Telnet to 127.0.0.1 on port 9080 does not connect.

So Remote Potato is not yet compatible with windows 8 I'm afraid.

Hiya, I just got RemotePotato and from what I've seen its an amazing application.

The problem is I'm using Windows 8 CP and I would love to get it running with guide support and things. I am extremly happy to test or run very alpha versions in order to get it working, and not afraid to get down and dirty with it because I'm quite tech literate :P

So here is what I think is going on with Windows 8. I'm running Windows 8 x64 CP with media center and dual tuner tv. Here is the log from the server starting, initially I didnt understand why it wasnt working, and I think I managed to work out one of the bugs. When you log into Windows 8 it uses your .Net passport instead of a local account which is required for music access, so I switched to local accounts then it worked, with my music library.

The main bug I found has something to do with mcstoredb.dll . Now it could be that it isnt working because I dont have a internet connection on my Windows 8 machine (just moved house) but I think its more likely that Microsoft may have made some changes between Windows 7 and Windows 8 Media Center. Apart from that it works great. I would love to see Live Tv streaming though, I assume it must be harder to do thats why its not in it yet. I'm running tech preview 1.1.1
Regardless here is my log:
