Media Center Application

Postby sccrgoalie1 » Thu Aug 18, 2011 8:18 pm

Hello,

I've created an MCML addin for remote potato. Please consider this software, use at your own risk. Below is a link to where the installer can be found, a quick overview, and a description of known issues and plans.

Overview
-The installer should create a strip in media center called Shared Guide with two Icons. Potato and Settings. Before you use Potato, make sure you go into settings.
-The installer will create a log and xml settings file in the C:\Program Data\SharedGuidePotato folder. Please post the log with any issues.
-You must install mychannellogos on the pc you are using and let it download the images for the current implementation

Recently added features/bug fixes
-Slide deck to view details of each program and set series record and single as well as cancel
-Focus overlay more like the native overlay
-Record series by clicking on an item that is currently a single recording
-Cancel series by clicking record on an item that is currently a series recording
-Add arrows for programs starting before currently time or ending after
-The guide banner picture changes if there is no picture for a particular program
-If you scroll to fast into the future the program will no longer crash a message will be produced
-http will be added to the settings automatically if it is not specified
-Fix gride sizing
-Focus stays on the far right when scrolling
-Loading time vastly improved
-Skip forward and backward in guide by 12 hours
-Channel number entry
-Mouse interactivity (for scrolling left, right, up, down all other info is mouse interactive)
-Colored gride tiles based on program type
-Other recordings page
-Series settings

Currently implemented features
-View your guide from Remote Potato (Favorites or all channels)
-Set single recordings by clicking record in the guide
-Begin playing live tv from the guide if a tuner is setup on the PC you are using

Known Issues
-If you scroll to the end of listings (14 day's ish) the app will crash

Planned Features
-Manage series interface
-Channel Focus displays now and next programs

Please let me know of any problems that I can work to resolve. The log information should help, but I will be working to improve that in the coming weeks. My time is limited but I will be improving this as time allows.

Hi sccrgoalie1,

Could you explain further what this addin is accomplishing in addition to the standard Media Center features? I fail to understand the benefits, i suspect it enables me to access scheduled recordings on the pc with the TV card from within Media Center on another PC, but i'm not sure.

Currently I am just trying to replicate the Media Center features to make a very usable guide. The point of this addin is to allow for multiple pc's to share one main recording "server." By using this addin you can view and set recordings on that remote box. It is a step closer to allowing PC's to be "extenders." I think it is really the missing piece as you can already share recordings, but now you can share guide listings as well.

Also, because it is based on remote potato it is also accessible across the internet in a familiar Media Center view.

Please note upgrade is not working correctly. You must uninstall the previous version before installing the new version for the update to properly take.
