Remote Potato Service won't start with Windows

Postby rups0911 » Fri Mar 25, 2011 9:04 pm

I have been using the stable version for a while with no issues. Recently uninstalled it and installed the tech preview. Everything works fine except that the service will not auto start with Windows (7 32bit).
The service is listed in the services snap in and set to Automatic. If I start it manually it works fine. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing but same issue. I've seen that others have had the same issue in the past but the threads don't state if/how the issue was resolved.

Thanks

Please try to enter your username and password in the settings app.
And then restart your computer.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have now input a username and password but something strange is happening here. Sometimes the service starts ok with Windows but mostly not. I have now changed the startup type to Automatic (delayed start) and so far it has started ok (only tested 3 reboots). Why would a username/password make a difference to the service starting or not ?

Thanks

Remote potato has been programmed to start the service as a user to be able to read and stream the movies, pictures and music libraries of that user.

Actually, while that used to be the case, it's just the Music library now - basically, the only way to access the music library from Windows Media Player, due to some rather boring COM programming issues, is for the service to run as a specified user rather than the local system account.

Let us know if you have any more problems.
